We had the first meeting of the new Rolla Photography group on May 24th at 6 PM at Penelope’s Restaurant. Our next meeting will be at the Children's Library in downtown Rolla on June 21, 2011 at 6:30 PM. The group wanted to discuss areas of image editing. We will use Photoshop CS5 for that but what we discuss can apply to most image editing programs. They have a projector that can be attached to a computer. What we discuss is up to the group. We will spend about an hour or less on this and then discuss individual's photographs. Since the programs will be generated by what the group wants, bring photos and questions. Photos can be printed or put on a thumb drive or burned to a CD. I found I needed to clarify what we do. At the first meeting, the group decided that these discussions would include image editing as well as photography because an artist uses all the tools available to them. We will continue on this path.

All levels are welcome. There is so much to photography: composition, lighting, action, still……. Discussing photos and experiencing how others react to them is a wonderful way to grow. We all can grow and working with others is an effective way. Remember everyone will see an image differently. Bring photos you like or ones you have taken that you don't like but want to discuss.

Meeting Schedule

June 21 6:30 PM Rolla Public Library - Image Editing and discussion

July 19 6:30 PM Rolla Public Library - Discussion of our images: lighting, composition, impact, etc.

Aug. 16 6:30 PM Rolla Public Library - Bring up to 3 images and tell why you chose them. This will help you choose your best work from your perspective. (If you don't want to bring images, come anyway.) Also, bring your camera and manual if you like so we can talk about various aspects of cameras. Each camera will be different although there is a commonality among brands. You can bring other images to share and if we have time we can discuss them. Bring questions about photography or image editing.

Sept. 20 6:30 PM Rolla Public Library - We will be discussing cropping among other image editing techniques techniques and looking at members' work. Please bring an example and describe why you like it. Image editing software has been available for about 25 years now. It is part of most photographer's toolbox. If you are not familiar with what it can do, you will be amazed at how you can take an OK image and improve it - not necessarily change it, but improve it. It can be as simple as removing telephone lines in under a minute.

Oct. 18 6:30 PM Rolla Public Library - Kaye Keller will present a demonstration of a free image editing program called PhotoScape. We will continue to discuss members' images and see how they can be affected by image editing.

Nov. 15 6:30 PM Rolla Public Library -

Dec. 20 6:30 PM Rolla Public Library -
